The Brian Hafer Foundation is truly a family-run foundation. We rely on upon Brian’s parents, sister, aunts, uncles, cousins, friends, and now second-generation family members to operate as a 501(c)(3) non-profit organization and support a number of worthy organizations.
How It Began:
A few months after Brian’s death, my cousin Shawn innocently asked me, “Hey, you like putting on golf outings; how about we do one in Brian’s memory?” While true, these “golf outings” were 4-5 groups at a local course where we would play for a little money, but through this first question, the Brian Hafer Memorial Golf Outing was created.
Little did we know (at first, Shawn, Todd, Bill, and Kyle) that this idea would eventually lead to our family donating over $100,000 to worthy organizations. That first year, August 1, 2010, at the Jamaica Run Golf Club, 28 foursomes showed to support our family’s grief. Friends, family, lawyers, judges, and Brian’s best friends (Mike & Josh) showed up to honor Brian’s memory.
After that, the Family decided that it should create a Family Foundation, the Brian Hafer Foundation, a 501(c)(3) non-profit organization whose mission was -to highlight drug awareness and remind individuals that abuse knows no borders and willingly permeates every social structure.
For the years 2011-2019, the Outing was held out of the beautiful Dayton Country Club in Oakwood. Thank you to Jeff Grant, Keith Fisher, Rob Karnes, and Dan Gates!
As went enter 2020, our 11th Annual Brian Hafer Memorial Golf Outing will be held at the Top 100 NCR Country Club. We are looking forward to spending many years at this esteemed golf course!
We are truly fortunate to have a FAMILY run Foundation. I truly cannot think of too many family members that have not volunteered or participated in the Outing (and we have a LOT!). For this we are truly blessed! Now, we are looking forward to the next generation of Hafer’s to put their stamp on the Outing.
